Short hikes lead to Calypso Cascades, Ouzel Falls, Bluebird and Thunder Lakes. Short drives will take you to four other trailheads: St Vrain & Meadow Mountain to the south; the Allenspark trailhead, which leads back into Wild Basin; Twin Sisters, offering a spectacular view of the eastern plains; and the magnificent Longs Peak. Rising over 14,000 feet, Longs Peak offers some of the most challenging climbing and hiking to be found anywhere. Winter brings its own activities, as the Wild Basin area of Rocky Mountain National Park has some of the best cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the Rockies. For the extreme adventurer, the falls in the area are popular climbing attractions, and draw many people each year. For the downhill skier, major downhill resorts are only 45 minutes away by car. Take the E-470 North Exit, Exit 6B, toward 120th Avenue. Merge onto E-470 North (portions toll) and continue for approximately 17 miles. Merge onto I-25 North/US-87 North via Exit 47 toward Fort Collins and continue for 15.5 miles. Take the CO-66 Exit, Exit 243, toward Lyons. Turn left onto CO-66/CR-30. Continue to follow CO-66 West for 16 miles. Stay straight to go onto Main Street/CO-7 North. Continue to follow CO-7 North for approximately 21 miles. Turn left onto CR-84 West and continue for 3/10 mile to the property.
